Starry Starry Night

Starry, starry night
Paint your palette blue and grey
Look out on a summer’s day
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul
Shadows on the hills
Sketch the trees and daffodils

Catch the breeze and the winter chills
In colours on the snowy linen land

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free

They would not listen
They did not know how

Perhaps they’ll listen now

Starry, starry night
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze
Swirling clouds and violet haze
Reflect in vincent’s eyes of china blue
Colours changing hue

Morning fields of amber grain
Weathered faces lined in pain
Are soothed beneath the artists’ loving hand

Now I understand
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen
They did not know how

Perhaps they’ll listen now

For they could not love you
But still your love was true

And when no hope was left inside
On that starry, starry night
You took your life as lovers often do
But I could have told you Vincent
This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you

Like the strangers that you’ve met
The ragged men in ragged clothes
The silver thorn of bloody rose
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

Now I think I know
What you tried to say to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free
They would not listen
They’re not listening still
Perhaps they never will...

Hear this song at Erebus' little shop of horrors.

and looove the impressionistic style of art
it seems so simple and happy :)
and yet, the same man suffered from insanity

but why are all insane pople so unhappy? you think history writes them that way? u think too much joy was considered a bad thing?

i mean -why did all great artists and writers suffer from depression???

did u see the google logo celebrating his birth anniv?

  5. Trauma Queen>i think what is common to these people is sensitivity, towards eveything around them.Thats how one can be happy and extremely depressed.

  6. oh I love the mad swirls in this painting..almost as if his mind was sending out a signal depicting the chaos within...the self portrait isn;t his is it..I thought he did only one of his left ear which the backdground is red,,,
    hmmmm..
    cheers

  7. i also think it has something to do with the fact that the city is so still and the sky full of chaos. A movement so still to notice is louder than the city which sleeps, unaware.Contrast.

  8. i love the song and paintings of course. but there's nothing new in that. thousands have loved it before me, and as many will after me. i dont think i can find any new meaninng in the words or the images, all i can attempt is an understanding of the depth of the sentiment of the artist andthe poet. for the song is pure poetry. chamki, i couldnt help but smile when i read someone write about the impressionistic style of painting. thats so english lit! i know you'll understand what i'm trying to say.
